Dr. Jamie Bassel: Hi, I’m Jamie Bassel and I practice at 425 Madison Avenue on the 11th floor. We’re on the corner of 49th and Madison here in Midtown Manhattan. I’ve been practicing for 20 years and I specialize in musculoskeletal conditions.

Caroline: So the first question is, what is chiropractic?

Dr. Jamie Bassel: Chiropractic is the study of the spinal column and all of the muscles and ligaments that join to it. We focus predominantly on how the body moves and ways to correct it when it gets stuck.

Caroline: What are the most common reasons people seek a chiropractor out?

Dr. Jamie Bassel: So the reasons why people typically seek out chiropractors is for things like neck pain, back pain, and generalized body aches. Our primary goal is to identify what’s bothering you and seeing ways we can treat you holistically.

Caroline: So what exactly do chiropractors do with a patient?

Dr. Jamie Bassel: So chiropractic adjustments is one of the many things that we have in our tool box as far as things that we can do with our patients. We’re primarily trying to help mobilize the spine, albeit gently, to help increase mobility throughout. So our goal is to try and help make you feel better.

Caroline: What are some common misconceptions about chiropractic?

Dr. Jamie Bassel: The common micsonceptions about chiropractic is usually about how much time I have to treat with the doctor. More often than not, patients think that they have to be here forever and ever and ever. Our primary goal is to identify the problem and treat it and get you on your way.

Caroline: So before we leave, what’s one fun fact about yourself?

Dr. Jamie Bassel: I grew up in Montreal Canada and before I became a chiropractor I was a sound engineer so I got a chance to work with a lot of rock and roll acts up in Canada.
